The Amazing Olive

For thousands of years, Olive trees (Olea europaea) have been revered by gods the size of Zeus, and used as a natural health remedy in the Mediterranean region. Though we’re all familiar with the fruit of the Olive tree as a tasty hors d'oeuvre, or the oil (pressed from the seed within the fruit) for cooking with, even the leaf provides us with health-promoting benefits.

Olive Leaf extract is a powerful antimicrobial that is effective against many types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Along with Oregano oil, it is often used as a first line treatment for overcoming and preventing flus and colds. One of its constituents, oleuropein, has even been shown to prevent viruses and bacteria from replicating.

Olive Leaf may also help to lower blood sugar levels, especially in type 2 (adult onset) diabetes. Its blood sugar-lowering properties are attributed to its ability to improve insulin release from the pancreas, as well as improving glucose uptake by the body’s cells. Olive Leaf has also been traditionally used for helping to lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

As if all of this weren't enough, Olive Leaf is loaded with natural antioxidants!
