Stress & Hair Loss

Regular, everyday types of stress like being late for work aren’t usually enough to cause hair loss. But when you’re under ongoing stress or experience a sudden, traumatic event, significant hormonal changes occur that can trigger hair loss.

Emotional stress such as loss of a loved one, divorce, or other significant events can have a suppressive effect on the thyroid. This is due to feedback from stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin. Physical events like surgery may also have this effect.

Low thyroid function (hypothyroid) is a very common cause of hair loss. All of our metabolic functions, including hair growth, are dependent upon this little powerhouse that regulates our metabolism. When it is under-functioning (hypothyroid), hair growth will become slower as a result of overall decreased metabolism.

Other hormonal changes can also cause hair loss, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause. During her perimenopausal years, a woman’s estrogen and progesterone are in decline, resulting in more ‘unopposed testosterone’ available for conversion to dihydrotestorone (DHT). It is this DHT which affects the hair follicles, causing them to shrink so that the growing hair shaft receives fewer nutrients.

The result? Weaker, thinner hair that falls out or may even stop growing.

The solution? Hair Essentials!

• Targets DHT and inhibits its effects upon the scalp follicles
• Contains nutrients that naturally support the thyroid
• Contains key ingredients that feed your scalp to promote stronger, healthier new hair!
