Should you take Vitamin C Everyday?

Many recognize the value of vitamin C in helping to maintain a healthy immune system and fend off the common cold, right?

But did you know that humans are one of only a very few mammals that are unable to manufacture vitamin C themselves?!

During the evolutionary process, our species lost the enzyme necessary to convert vitamin C from its precursor, glucose (these 2 molecules are almost identical). Coupled with the fact that vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin (meaning the body does not store it), we must replenish our needs for this essential nutrient on a regular basis.

Vitamin C is readily available in many whole foods, and a healthy, balanced diet generally ensures sufficient amounts to avoid scurvy. To fully meet our body's needs for vitamin C, however, and its entire spectrum of physiological functions, supplementation is not only beneficial but highly recommended.

• Antioxidant - protects cells from damaging free radicals
• Production of collagen for proper wound healing
• Maintenance of healthy gums
• Increases absorption of iron from the intestine
• Supports a healthy immune system
