DIY Hair Care: Winterize Your Hair with Coconut Oil

With colder winter weather threatening our tresses, what's your best option for protecting your locks? Coconut oil is my top go-to!

Coconut oil is able to penetrate the hair shaft to provide deep moisturizing protection. Other oils, including olive oil, have a much harder time penetrating and therefore moisturizing.

It's simple to use, and also inexpensive: just apply a few tablespoons of coconut oil (in its liquid form) to your hair, soaking it thoroughly, a few times a week. Let sit for 30 minutes before shampooing out (better yet, leave in overnight for deeper moisturizing!).

Coconut oil also protects your hair from "getting tired" - yes, your hair can get fatigued, too!If you blow dry your hair, it can suffer from what is known as "hygral fatigue": this occurs when hair becomes damaged from expanding while wet and then contracting when dry. Hot showers and blow dryers are two of the worst offenders when it comes to hygral fatigue.

Using coconut oil regularly helps protect your hair and reduce damage, and keeps your hair at its shiniest and healthiest!
