Bilberry - for Natural Eye Health Support

For centuries, Bilberry has been used as both a food and health supplement. As a food, it’s a popular fruit for pies and jams and is enjoyed much like its cousin, the Blueberry (in fact, it's also called European Blueberry).

Bilberries contain natural substances called anthocyanidins, powerful antioxidants that help to protect us from damaging free-radicals. Anthocyanidins also strengthen blood vessel walls and may prevent blood platelets from sticking together (which can decrease the chance of blood clots).

Anthocyanidins have been found to increase the production of rhodopsin, a pigment in the retina of the eye that helps it adapt to changes in light, and which can thereby improve night vision. This is the basis of its anecdotal use by British pilots during the Second World War, when their night vision was reputed to have improved upon regular consumption of Bilberry.
